Lynette taught herself IB ESS and earned a top grade, and has been tutoring IB Environmental Systems & Societies for over 6 years on MyTutor UK, helping students across the world achieve top grades.
FirstHandIB means learning from someone who has been through the IB first hand: she learned ESS herself, then spent years helping others master it.
Her passion for environmental topics extends far beyond the classroom. From studying at the London School of Economics to working at BMW and the United Nations, she brings real world depth to every lesson she creates.

About FirstHandIB
FirstHandIB provides comprehensive, interactive video lessons for the IB Environmental Systems & Societies course. Our goal is to make ESS engaging and accessible for every student.
Each topic includes guided video lessons with built in exercises that test your understanding as you learn. Work through the syllabus at your own pace and build the knowledge you need to excel in your exams.

You thought ESS would be the easy science, and now the actually scientific elements, case studies and maths overwhelm you. Of course, you have never heard of succession, the Simpsons Diversity Index, or the first and second law of thermodynamics before.
I have been there, and I learned the tools, both by getting myself to a comfortable 7 in ESS, and through tutoring ESS students for 6 years now, to make ESS feel not only easy, but interesting and enjoyable again.
Every concept I teach, I had to make easy to understand myself. I am here to do the same for you.

Lynette completed the International Baccalaureate back in 2019 and scored 40/45 overall, with a 7 in ESS. Since then, she became a tutor because she wanted to share the study methods and strategies that helped her achieve top grades with other students around the world.

What is done by Lynette
- Scripts are written by Lynette, the creator of FirstHandIB. Every lesson starts with Lynette deciding what to teach, what to include and how to explain it.
- Videos are recorded by Lynette. Yes, painfully, with an actual microphone, one take at a time.
- Lessons are created by Lynette. The structure, explanations, examples and learning journey are put together by her.
- Content is reviewed and edited by Lynette. When AI does help with a first version or suggestion, it is reviewed, rewritten and refined before it reaches the platform. Nothing goes straight from an AI tool to you.
We use AI as a tool to help with:
- Generating illustrations and visual assets
- Shortening and streamlining scripts
- Fine tuning written lesson content
- Supporting the creation of flashcards
AI does not teach you, grade your written work or make academic decisions about you.
